Innovative Nurses & Sitters was one of 60 vendors invited to participate at the annual MD Anderson Vendor Fair in the Texas Medical Center. Participants included home care agencies, home health agencies for Medicare and Medicaid services, hospice agencies, long term care facilities and numerous health care providers.
Employees of MD Anderson in the case management and rehabilitation departments visited with the vendors to glean more information on services available after discharging their patients. Susan Davis, Administrator, and Cecelia Johnson, CNA, were there to inform discharge planners of INS’s air travel assistance program. INS caregivers will accompany individuals on their trip home when personal assistance is required.
‘Domestic and foreign travel is one of our specialities’ says Davis. ‘Recently discharged hospital patients are often too weak to manage the rigors of airports and airline travel but are anxious to get home to their families after a period of time in the hospital. We have caregivers able to escort them whether returning to Paris, Texas or Paris, France (or, in a recent case, Montevideo, Uruguay!).
With the large number of international visitors (over 16,000 per year) seeking care at the Houston Medical Center, there is often a need for such services that our caregivers are well qualified to meet.
Our participation in events such as this Vendor Fair help us to remain current in our knowledge of industry best practices in the field of elder care services, and connnected to other professionals in the community, all of which contributes to our delivering the highest quality care to our clients.
